What’s more appropriate for a birthday, wedding or other gift, than a cake? Sure, there will probably be an edible cake at the celebration, but what about a cake that contains a surprise? It’s easy to make a tiered cake which holds a secret gift inside. Use paper mache boxes and you can build a tiered cake gift box with no problem. Plus, you can make it a simplistic cake, or a more detailed version, depending on how much effort and money you want to invest.
Paper mache boxes are cheap and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Choose two, three, or more boxes – with their lids – to make the birthday cake gift box. The boxes can be round or square; purchase boxes which diminish in size to make the cake.
It’s really easy to spray paint the paper mache boxes but you can also decorate them with fabric or cloth. Paint the boxes white and wrap them in white lace for a wedding. Or, paint the boxes then wrap them in cartoon-theme fabric for a child’s birthday. Decorate all the boxes and all the lids the way you want. You’ll find it easiest, if you’re going to use paper or cloth to decorate the boxes, to paint the lids and glue the material around the sides of the boxes.
To assemble the cake, glue the lid onto the largest box and cut a hole in it. The hole should be large; just leave an inch or so of the lid in place, all the way around, after cutting the hole. Cut a hole in the bottom of the next box, glue the lid onto this second box, and cut a hole in the lid. Continue stacking boxes, cutting holes in their bottoms, gluing them in place on the tier, and cutting holes in the lids. When you get to the top box, cut a hole in the bottom, but don’t cut a hole in the top. Also, don’t glue the top lid onto its box.
Set the chosen gift inside the cake gift box and place the lid on top. The recipient can simply remove the top lid and reach inside to remove the gift. The tiered cake gift box looks really pretty and makes the perfect gift box for many different occasions. The cake box doesn’t cost much to make but it looks stunning and unique.
