The James Henry Smith and Gladys Manning Smith Scholarship Fund is open to primary residents of Muscogee County in Georgia who have a high financial need, display high character and have average to above average scholastic merit. Recipients can receive up to $7,000 a year to be spent on tuition, books, housing and other reasonable expenses associated with obtaining a college education. Recipients can also renew their scholarship for up to four years as long as are fully enrolled during the regular school year and can maintain a 2.0 GPA.

If you actually decide to apply for the scholarship, though, then you will have to take the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can learn more and apply for the FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. You can also visit a local high school to request for a hard copy of the FAFSA. Once you have obtained a Student Aid Report (SAR) after submitting your FAFSA, simply bring the SAR to the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley in 1340, 13th Street, Columbus GA and complete the interview with the Smith Scholarship Committee if you are approved as a finalist.
Completed applications for the scholarship fund are due on Monday, March 19, 5 PM in the CFCV office, notifications of finalist status will be mailed out on April 11 and scholarship announcements will be mailed out on May 1.
