Pumpkin was a neighbor’s cat,
I’d always chase him away.
He hung around my bird feeders,
Every single day.
He’d wait and pounce and eat,
Go back and pounce and then,
I’d run out and chase him away,
But he’d do it all again.
I’d fill the feeders every day,
And try to keep Pumpkin away.
The neighbor died and then,
Pumpkin came to stay.
He’d beg for food, I fed him.
He had an appetite.
He wiggled into my house,
Late on a winter’s night.
He is so cute and tidy,
And oh so very smart.
I let him stay inside one day,
And now we’re never apart.
