Does a yeast infection go away if you just leave it alone?
Q: I noticed something was off a few days ago. Now figured out it’s a yeast infection. Medicine kind of freaks me out so I was wondering if there is a chance of it just passing if left alone, or maybe there’s something I can do to relief the symptoms or even get rid of it.
A: It can resolve on its own but you are better off treating it. Yeast infections that persist for a long time can cause severe irritation of the vaginal area and even around the urethra. Yeast infections can cause painful urination as well. Your skin can become so irritated with a yeast infection you may experience bleeding in some cases. I am not trying to scare you but this is what can happen if you don’t treat it.Believe me, I hate any kind of vaginal medication but the alternative is worse. You can get Monistat 3 and it should feel a lot better in a few days. Monistat 1 is way too harsh on vaginal tissue. If you start to feel worse and really don’t want to take anything you can try taking a bath with half a cup of baking soda. You could also take an antihistamine or get a cream to help with the itching. You can also buy acidophilus pills and insert them into your vagina when you go to bed. I hope you feel better.
Does anyone know if a yeast infection, if left untreated, will go away on its own?
Q: I know this is kind of weird to ask people I dont know, but I have had infections before and known right away and treated it; but this time a culture came back from the Doc saying I had one. I have no symptoms whatsoever but he wants to prescribe me a pill to make it go away. I am wondering if this will make me sick if I leave it alone or if there is anything wrong w/out taking medicines since it isn’t bothering me? The Doc office is closed right now or else I would call him. Thanks in advance for any FACTS you all know of. 🙂
A: I would have never guessed this:Yeast infections can cause severe discomfort but rarely cause serious health problems. Left untreated, vaginal yeast infections often clear up on their own, usually when menstruation begins. Menstrual blood raises the vaginal pH, causing the number of yeast cells to decrease because they can’t grow in the pH present during menstruation.
