A: Since I cannot see the “things” in person, I cannot be a 100% sure. It is very possible it is because of lupus because depending on the type of lupus, skin eruptions are often seen. I would highly recommend you take your mom to see a dermatologist to get it looked at. If the patches are asymmetrical, change in color, have irregular borders, and change in size then it is definitely serious. Also if there is a high rate of skin cancer in your family I would highly recommend wearing sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun. Excessive sun exposure is associated with a high incidence of skin cancer.
