Q: ok, here it goes. last night (early this morning) I got up at about 4 to feed my 10 week old daughter. I noticed a big spider bite on my arm. it hurt and was very itchy. I had a weird feeling through out my body. I ended up going back to sleep. well as the day went on i felt worse and worse. my lower back started hurt SO badly! My stomach hurts. I got VERY nauseous. I have been having crazy anxiety since i got the bite as well and a heavy chest. I went to urgent care just to be safe. well they gave me a steriod cream (which when i put on made me EXTREAMLY dizzy…so i washed off imediately!!)….didnt even look at the spider bite. just said that the stomach seems like it is ulcers and prescribed be zantac (I AM BREASTFEEDING AND TOLD THEM SO….THEY SAID TO SPEAK WITH A DOCTOR BEFORE TAKING) and said i should follow up with the doctor. Since then i have felt very ‘out of it’ off and on. my chest gets tight sometimes and is fine other time. It has been about 20 hours since i noticed the bite. I am assuming it is a black widow bite after many things i have read online. Do you agree? Also, if it is since it has already been 20 hours…..am i in the safe zone? I would assume so, but am not sure…..please answer as soon as possible!!

I have handled thousands of spiders over the years as an arachnologist and have only been bitten twice. Only female Black widow spiders are dangerous; they are black (of course), glossy, about 1 to 2 cms long and have a red mark in the shape of an hourglass under the body.
