A: It really is a normal side effect…. because it causes the skin and stuff to dry out. I’d suggest talking to your doctor about it if it keeps happening, though. Also, use a humidifier at night and use nasal spray or a Neti pot DAILY. This should help to keep your sinuses lubricated and prevent them from cracking.

Even though there are two type of nosebleeeds, anterior and posterior bleedings , the former originates from nasal blood vessels , and the later originates from an artery. 90% of nosebleeds are of the former.I’d guess that your son’s nosebleed was anterior , the heavy bleeding was probably due to breakings of several blood vessels, which may sometimes appear ” violent ” and ” frightening “.Big blood clots were indications that clotting process was doing a good job trying to seal up the breaking. That was nothing to be worried about.There was no injuries or no existing illness , so I assume there wasnt medication taking as well. As you may know, some medication can cause blood thinning and leading to difficulties in the clotting process such as aspirin ( is he taking aspirin ? ) , abnormal blood vessels in the nasal cavity could also lead to frequent bleedings ( but I guess this was a one of incident for yr son ) , liver diseases could so partake in clotting difficulty, as well as high blood pressure ( although this only is usually not the only cause of nosebleed). There hasnt been clear-cut reason as for why nosebleeds occur except for those stated above. I’d hypothesized that during sleeping, your son might have accidentally applied a considerable force on his nose. Cold and/or dry weather might make vessels more brittle , hence easy to break as well. And nosebleeds occur to almost everyone at some point in their life, considering I used to have nosebleed like at least two times every week when I was a teenager , I reckon there is nothing to worry about for your son’s case. First time is always hard ;)Edit : is it the little one or the big one ? If it was the reading of the little one , then BP was indeed higher than average for a teenager. 112 in asystole is good for a teen , 86 was abit higher than the widely considered normal , sometimes it is called ” pre-hypertension “. In this case, diet and daily habits and activities could be telling. Also, home measurement should be taken when the subject is under resting condition , and several readings are needed to give an average reading.
