Is there a chance the swine flu vaccine will be dangerous?
Q: In the 1976 swine flu scare, more people died from Guillain-Barré Syndrome which they developed as a result of the vaccine, than died from the disease itself. What are the potential risks involved with the Swine Flu vaccine 33 years later? I assume those in charge of developing the vaccine are trying very hard to avoid a repeat of the past disastrous mistakes. I do notice that the media are very quiet about the vaccine related deaths of ’76. I guess they want to avoid panic.
A: Well I don’t know much about the swine flu or the deaths of ’76 but I know I won’t be getting the vaccine. It may sound stupid but I don’t want some I Am Legend sh!t goin down. I’ll be able to handle it. Interesting point you brought up, I’ll have to research. I’m curious now 😉
Is there any danger with the swine flu vaccine?
Q: I want to know if the swine flu vaccine has been tested. I want to have it when it comes out but will i die from it?
A: It ISN’T dangerous.I am very angry with the newspapers for publishing misleading headlines such as “Swine flu vaccine rushed through safety checks” I can see whats going to happen here, the anti-vaccination brigade will have a field day and people will listen to their incorrect diatribes and end up not having the vaccine for fear of it being unsafe. The vaccine WILL still go through the standard safety checks. No vaccine is 100% but the benefits do outweigh the rare risks. By ‘rushing through safety checks’ it simply means they will hasten the whole process and cut out the endless paperwork. All the vaccines WILL be tested, you will not be given an untested vaccine. It takes months to make flu vaccines, but they are using a fast-tracked approval procedure which has involved trials of a “mock-up” vaccine so the speed would not compromise patient safety.
