Q: I have a bad cold that is affecting my sinuses a lot. I normally workout every day (I do heavy weightlifting). I work different parts each day, of course. I skipped over today, because my energy was drained. My common sense tells me that it may lower my immune system/resistance even more if I worked out. Am I correct in thinking this way?

A: First of all it all depends what your “sickness” is due to. But in general, both theoretically and clinically, it is good for you to get a little mild to moderate exercise in. This is because as you exercise, you improve overall circulation throughout your body. This includes lymph fluid as well, fluid that your white blood cells use as in roads to travel throughout the body. So increasing the flow increases the chance that your immune cells will encounter and attack the invader and thereby purge your body of foreign invaders. Also exercise increases the body’s core temperature creating a very nasty environment for the bugs to replicate.
