Would You Be a Surrogate Mother?

As I watched the Doctors Television Show one day, I saw a 56-year-old grandmother that gave birth to triplets for her daughter. This 56-year-old looked very good. I had no idea she was 56-years-old. She looked about age 45. I would not have imagined that she was age 56.

Although you may have been pregnant before, every pregnancy is different. Are you in good medical condition? Are you prepared emotionally, spiritually, and physically to carry a baby at your older age? There are many online places for surrogate mothers. Surrogate mothers are wanted at www.global.ivf.com (International Fertility Medical Center.) They do include a written agreement. According to IVF each country has it’s own laws. It is preferred that surrogate mothers caring babies should be 22-38 years of age and that they have given birth at least once. No this is not the perfect condition, but it is giving the gift of life.

According to the ABA (American Bar Association) Journal a surrogacy can cost upwards of $100,000. So surrogacy is not come cheap.

One of the greatest gift a surrogate mother could give would be to carry another’s baby. This is one of the most selfless acts. An even greater gift would be to carry your daughter’s baby. There would be several things to take into consideration. Are you prepared in the event you end up carrying not one baby, but triplets or more? Has consideration been given as to what age you will tell the child that you carried as a baby for your daughter in the womb?

I have often heard of mother’s that say they loved and enjoyed being pregnant. I don’t know that I would lend my body as an incubator for 9 months. That is a big responsibility. It is also 9 months of your life. I recall having difficulty just walking at 9 months during my pregnancies. I almost recall it like it was yesterday. I recall not being able to lie on my stomach. I did not like that feeling. I remember my baby constantly kicking me in the back and in the side. I still remember vividly my baby always lying on one side of my stomach and how uncomfortable it was. I can’t forget the memory of gently pushing my baby to the other side of my stomach. Surrogate mothers are seemingly a solution or alternatives for couples that have been unable to conceive.

Just think of the thousand of families that want children, but have not been able to conceive. Some might argue why not just adopt? Adoption is again, another alternative, but your own seed is priceless. Your own seed carries specific DNA and genes that can be hereditary. Someone has once said women are the incubators. According to Web MD. “On one side of the placenta, the mother’s blood circulates, and on the other side, fetal blood circulates.” “The mother’s blood and fetal blood usually don’t mix in the placenta.”

What if there are complications during the delivery? Even though the surrogate mother might be in the best of health, complications could occur such as the baby turning and possibly coming out breech or the surrogate mother develops gestational diabetes. These are just some of the complications that could occur.

Because every state is different you must also determine if it is legal in the state that you reside. So consider carefully if you decide to become a surrogate mother.
