What You Did Not Know About Martin Luther King

We dedicate a day to him, but do we really know all about MLK? He was born on January 15th ,1929 and he died on April 4th 1968. He was a great leader of the civil rights movement in the 1960’s ,and he lead the way to have equality among all people. What we don’t like to talk about is his issues with authorship and plagiarism. During college at Boston University (where MLK got his Ph.D) , Boston University investigated MLK’S work and they found out that he plagiarized major portions of his doctoral thesis from people who were experienced in the topic. He also has authorship issues with his well known “I Have a Dream” speech. A earlier black preacher , Archibald Carey, Jr. , wrote a speech to 1952 Republican National Convention. MLK’s speech has very striking similarities. Such as in MLK’S speech he says “Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.” In Archibald Carey, Jr. speech he says “may the Republican Party, under God, from every mountainside, ‘LET FREEDOM RING.’” There are other striking similarities you can see by reading both the speeches . Next time you read about MLK think about what really got him where he was.
