Top 10 Ways to Deodorize Shoes

Stinky work boots, shoes and sneakers can clear a room fast. Many people are embarrassed by the offending odor wafting out of their shoes but don’t know what to do about it. Actually, there is a lot you can do about it. Several shoe deodorizers are all very effective. As soon as you start using these remedies, you will never be afraid to take your shoes off.

1 – Fill old, thin socks or the feet of pantyhose with odor-reducing, scented kitty litter. Tie off the tops and stuff them in your shoes as soon as you take them off. Leave the scented shoe sachets in the shoes until you are ready to put you shoes back on.

2 – Stuff two to three scented dryer sheets into each shoe, sneaker or boot nightly. Leave the dryer sheets in the shoes until the next time you will wear them. Change to new dryer sheets when the dryer sheet scent diminishes.

3 – Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of borax into each shoe every night. In the morning shake the borax out of the shoes and into the garbage.

4 – Cut a lemon in half. Lay out two sheets of newspaper. Squeeze the lemon juice over the newspaper. Crumple the newspaper and stuff one sheet in each shoe. Let the newspaper remain in each shoe for at least eight hours.

5 – Rinse the dust off four charcoal briquettes and let the charcoal dry. Place two pieces of charcoal into each shoe, boot or sneaker. Let the charcoal stay in the shoes for eight to 10 hours.

6 – Purchase scraps of fragrant cedar wood at a lumberyard. Place the cedar wood into each shoe and let it stay until the next time you wear them.

7 – Mix 4 tablespoons of cornstarch with 10 to 12 drops of your favorite essential oil scent. Sprinkle equal amounts cornstarch into each shoe. Allow the cornstarch to remain in the shoe overnight. Empty the cornstarch in the morning.

8 – Brew a cup of green tea and let the tea cool to room temperature. Fill a spray bottle with the tea. Spray the tea into the shoes and let the tea dry.

9 – Fill a small spray bottle with cheap vodka. Spray the insides of the sneakers, shoes or boots with the vodka and let it sit for a few hours.

10- Mix 2 tablespoons baking soda with 1 tablespoon of medicated foot powder. Sprinkle the mixture into the shoes and let it sit for several hours. Empty the contents into the garbage before wearing.

Avoid stinky shoe odor by avoiding wearing the same shoes two or more days in a row.
