Timdiana Reviews Hugo

One filmmaker that has been labeled as greatness is none other than Martin Scorsese. Scorsese is known for his Oscar winning movies; but personally I have never cared for him. I think he’s good, but there is always something that gets lost in translation and just leaves me disappointed. His latest film was already marked as greatness; a film entitled “Hugo“. “Based off the story from Brian Selznick, “Hugo” received positive reviews prior to its release, but early reviews mean nothing in this field of work. Does it deserve the praise or does is just another Scorsese film? Find out in the review of “Hugo“.

Hugo” tells the story of Hugo, an orphan who lives in a train station, as he tries to solve the mystery about an automaton that his father tried to fix years ago. This plot was really easy to get into. It found a way to always remain compelling throughout the entire time. I was not sure where the plot was going, but for that reason, it made the story that more impressive. The story features several themes, but the one that I must praise is the theme discovered in the last act, for it is everything a moviegoer could look forward to.

The film features a small, yet complex, cast of characters. The two young central characters reminded me of the younger” Harry Potter” cast. Even minor characters of likes of Christopher Lee and Richard Griffiths were interesting despite only having a few scenes. All the performance were good, but the one I was most impressed with was Ben Kingsley as George Melies. His was complex and interesting and it was quite possibly the best I have Ben Kingsley in years.

One of “Hugo” big advertisement was that it was in 3D, so like any reasonable person, I saw it 2d. However, I will admit that there are moments that would have look great in 3D. Asides from that, the opening sequence was one of the best I have seen this year as it was very subtle, but said so much. The cinematography and music were both creative bringing something unique to movie. With everything I have said there is only one question to ask: why is it that all the character live in France speak in British accents? Oh well, it is not a big deal

Hugo” is an instant classic. It is a very compelling film that kept me interested all the way through. This is probably the most creative I have seen Scorsese in quite some time. “Hugo” may not have been for kids, but it is indeed worth seeing for anyone who loves movies. At long last, I take my hat off to Martin Scorsese and the wondrous film that is “Hugo“.
