I have always wanted to make this suggestion but there was never anyone who would have listened. Now with Occupy-Cities it is the perfect time to propose this.
There are so many wonderful men, women and children who are making this cause a reality yet as the weeks go by it becomes a thing of the past, just like everything always does. The Governments and Corporations are simply sitting back and laughing at us because they know in the end they will always win, we need a plan that each and every citizen can get involved with. There are so many people who want to get involved by are un-sure how, in all honesty protests frighten them you never know who is attending and what can go down that you’ll end up getting caught in the middle of. There has to be another way, a choice, an alternative one that is crazy enough to directly affect these money hungry corporations and send a big message in a big way.
It’s simple really, it’s so simple that it should have been done many years ago. For each Country/State/Province there should be a main website with the names and categories of each large Corporation e.g. Fast food: Mc Donalds, Wendy’s, Burger King. Gas stations: Shell, Esso, Petro. Postal services: Canada post, United Post, UPS, Fed ex. Charities who abuse donations: Unicef… AHAHA Tv channels, shows etc. And post service items such as cable tv, internet, satellite radio the list goes on and on–which is why we’d need a band of people in each Country/State/Province to put this thing together.
(The sites would have to be accessible to the general public (the 99%) and the public should be allowed to add to the categories as simply no one person could think of ‘everything’.)
The purpose would be as such; every month the general public would vote on one company/service/whatever from each category e.g. Esso, Burger King and Cable TV. This means that the company/service/whatever with the most votes will be where everyone flocks to for that month, all other businesses will be boycotted. No two places or services can be picked two months in a row, it has to go on a rotation. Let each and every company that has only their best interest, have their share at suffering and feeling the pain as we feel it every day.
Sometimes it can be un-avoidable to commit to something so extreme but if you’re serious about getting involved and taking over, be prepared. Don’t leave your house with a quarter tank of gas and drive to an area where only Shell exists if you are only allowed to fill up at an Esso. Don’t leave the house without a packed lunch in case all they have is a Wendy’s and you’re only allowed to go to Burger King. In the sense of services like cable; I am not asking you to cancel your television just put that service on hold for the month or reduce the package you have to the most in-expensive one.
I believe that this is the ONLY way the message and demands will ever be properly understood. I am not a website wiz kid which is why I am sending this message out; to be shared amongst everyone you know in hopes that there will be individuals who will have the time and the resources to make something like this a reality, you do your part and we’ll do ours.
Here are some more examples of what can be done on a month-month basis:
-Only shop at one particular grocery store.
-Refuse to go to the movies on opening weekend, or vote monthly on an actor and don’t watch anything with them in it – Let the 1% know that we can survive without them but can they without us?
-Don’t buy newly released albums for at least two weeks-one month – Youtube is already your best friend and most albums are leaked before release anyways!
-Refuse to go to big box stores in exchange for local small town shops.
-Vote to boycott a particular brand of food e.g. Coca Cola products
-Don’t be support these bastards by waiting twelve hours in line for a hot new item, it’s pretty disgusting anyways what are we bulls in a stampede? Let the birds whistle and sing.
Move past the corruption, the addictions, if you really want to help, you really want to see a change, don’t make petty excuses.. you’ll survive, it’s only for a month at a time! And by holding out for a little while you can be apart of something huge without any of the fears associated with attending a protest. I’m tired of being gouged by everything and I know you are too, we need you all to stand up for yourselves in these subtle yet powerful ways. It’s so easy and all of you can participate, so let’s kick them where it hurts!!
One last thing and this goes out to the 1%.. When there’s an earthquake or tsunami that devastates a Country why are you coming to us for aid? You hold these benefit concerts and make bracelets so that we the poor can purchase with what little money we have to raise money. First of all where’s the benefit concert for our own Economical hardships? Secondly, here’s a thought why not donate your own blasted money? The celebrities and artists who put on these benefit events are so FOS I never once felt that making bracelets and holding concerts was the best way for them to show their support, cause you know, afterall they are incredibly wealthy?! If your going to make us pay.. like we do for everything! At least match it…
