Tassimo Coffee Maker Review

So, as you may know we have been having a giveaway going for a few weeks: The Tassimo Home Brewing System. I hope you were all able to enter! While this giveaway has been going on, I have been reviewing the coffee maker myself and what I really have to say is O.M.G. As the giveaway has come to a close, I felt it was the perfect time to share what I thought about it. And now you know. Okay, okay, I’ll go into some more detail. If you insist….

After receiving my Home Brewing System in the mail, I was ready to try it out asap. Movie Star and I are huge coffee fans and have a nice coffee maker that has begun to wear down; but still gets the job done. So, when this single cup coffee maker arrived Movie Star looked at me and said, “I don’t think we are really going to use this but if you want to try it out that’s cool.” Secretly, I knew he was going to love it because he has an obsession with Espresso but only gets it at Starbucks on rare occasions. Boy was I right! He went from jokingly stating he would never buy one of these to wanting to buy one as gifts for his mother, my father and his sister’s family. I’m not kidding or making this up. He is drinking an espresso right now telling me how awesome it is and how he loves the fact that he can have one any time he wants. Okay, so Movie Star’s opinion may not send you running to the store (or internet) to buy one but perhaps what we have to say about them just might!

I have always wanted a fancy espresso, cappuccino and latte maker but when they run several hundred dollars even up to a thousand you forget about your desire rather quickly. So, when I met with some Tassimo representatives and they shared some information about this Home Brewing System with me I didn’t keep my hopes up about ever owning one. Then the price came into discussion. I was wow’d at the $129 tag. Of course that made me wonder if the product would be cheap because why on earth would those other coffee makers have the audacity to charge me $1,000 if I can get something simple for slightly more than $100? I had to see what this was all about and form my own opinions. So, here’s my story.

I was lucky enough to see a “fancy” coffee maker in use on Father’s Day. My aunt hosted our family gathering and when I arrived she took a count of everyone who wanted a cappuccino; there were about 5. I then watched her spend the next 45 minutes making enough cappuccino’s for everyone. In between each brew she had to grind the coffee to a fine espresso, then clean up the tools being used and hope that each cup of coffee was still warm for her guests after all the work. I thought, “Man that is a lot of work for a few cups of coffee.” Since I had yet to use my Tassimo I plugged it in the very next day and got ready to brew! I inserted the T-disc who’s barcode is read by the brewer so it knows exactly what its making. This innovative idea gave us the perfect cup but won’t transfer any of the flavor from Movie Star’s Espresso to the English Breakfast tea I make immediately after. That would be gross. Not only was it as simple as inserting a disc and pressing start but it literally takes only 1 minute to brew a single cup. AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING DURING THAT TIME. No holding anything or switching or stirring. Just waiting. Oh! And no clean up either. Just throw the disc away. Bam! Done.

Anyway, I thought “It probably won’t taste all that good because the coffee grinds have been sitting in a disc for who know how long but I was sorely mistaken. Not only was the espresso strong and flavorful but Movie Star thought it was better than Starbucks (though you can buy Starbuck’s T-discs). I had to agree because I think their coffee in general tastes burnt. We just had to try the other options out there and we wanted them in a hurry. So, though we did order some more T-discs from Tassimo we also found that Bed, Bath and Beyond sells them as well so we made a trip (you can also find them at Walmart, Target and Sears too). We purchased cappuccino’s and macchiato’s (which both taste fabulous) though we also saw a variety of teas, coffees, lattes, milk chocolates and more). Though Movie Star had never had a macchiato before, he is now hooked on them. And we love the fact that he can both have a coffee without having to make an entire pot. The last thing I wanted to share about this Home Brewing System is that the quality of the machine is great. Seriously, I don’t know how they do it, but this little guy ain’t cheapy. It’s made by Bosch and having a husband who knows quite a bit about power tools, I have been informed that their products are sturdy and durable. He even said, “I could probably drop this Tassimo and it won’t break.” Now, I don’t recommend you try it, but it just goes to show you how sturdy, compact and well manufactured he thinks it is.

Seriously, if you didn’t win this brewer here, go get one. When you can buy one for anywhere from $99 to $169, they are hard to pass up. And for all you coffee-drinking-mothers out there: With this coffee maker, you can enjoy any of their beverages in a single cup just for you with no clean up and nothing for the kids to get into. Plus, the mere minute it takes to brew will have you wondering why you never had one in your home before. Now relax with that cup of tea when the baby is asleep without having to wait for the tea pot to boil (and wake him up). It’s so easy. I’m not eeeven exaggerating.
