Ah the Super Nintendo. How I love you so. It was such a happy beginning. I held you in my hands and you fit perfectly. I remember saying ” There are too many buttons. How am going to know which does what? “
“Don’t worry”, they told me ” It will come to you naturally.”
I held on to you thinking about what I had seen you do in the hands of my cousin. You made it seem as if he was really Mario. Capable of breaking bricks with his head or growing larger by the means of a magic mushroom. He was a Demi-God.
I wanted to have the power too. The power to leap over fire and eventually defeat Bowser. I took a deep breath. I was ready.
Yeah this console brings back great memories. The Super Nintendo was released between 1990 and 1993. Believe it or not but that was the first gaming console I had ever seen in MY LIFE. A 16 bit video console capable of giving me indescribable pleasure. I guess that’s why it’s my all time favorite. I remember rushing home from school, home work forgotten, just to see how close I could get to saving the princess before my Mom yelled at me. Anyone who had a Super Nintendo in their home became the most popular person around. They had money. They had friends.You wanted to be them.
There are a lot of newer concepts in gaming. Better looking consoles, new devices but the Super Nintendo will always hold a special place in my heart. It was my joy and comfort, my friend during success and my enemy when I was defeated. I gained abilities that a normal human could only dream about attaining. I learned that there is a Hero inside all of us. I gained bragging rights.
Oh my dear old friend everyone knows you are the greatest. The King of them all. I loved every moment even the part where I had to take out the cassette and blow on you to make you work again. But everything is OK now. You gave me a whole new world to explore.
