Sheet Headboard Throw

Furniture throws are decorator favorites because of many reasons. You can cover your sofa, allow the dog to lie there, and wash the cover whenever you want. That way, visitors don’t end up covered in dog fur. Another reason why furniture throws are so loved is that, anytime you want, you can make everything look different. One day you can show the furniture as it is, the next you can cover it with throws, and you’ll have a whole new look for that room. When I feel like having a new look for the bed, I don’t put on a new comforter; I put on a new sheet. Not on the bed – on the headboard. Cover the headboard with a sheet and you instantly give the bed, as well as the bedroom, a new look.

You can buy fabric to make the headboard throw or you can just use a sheet you already own. A flat sheet works perfectly to make a throw for any size headboard. With a finished throw, you can give the headboard a different design in minutes. The perfect headboard for a throw is a solid wood type, or even wrought iron, as long as it is rectangular.

You can measure the headboard, and draw the measurements onto the chosen fabric, or you can just drape the sheet or other material over the headboard. Position it so that the edge of the sheet is aligned with the edge of the headboard, on one side. The other side will probably need to be cut to fit. You might also need to cut the length of the throw.

Hem around any cut sides of the sheet or other fabric. When you’re finished, you should have a piece that, when draped over the headboard, aligns with the sides, and hangs at least down to the bottom of the existing headboard. After hemming, lay the throw on the headboard, and mark areas on each side, where you can attach ties. Mark three or four places, down each side, where you can tack on a ribbon, on the front as well as the back cloth piece.

Sew simple ribbon ties to the sheet or cloth. Then, lay the cover on the headboard, and tie it on at the sides. Anytime you want, untie the ribbons, and throw the cover in the washer. Since it only takes a couple of minutes to cover the existing headboard – once the throw is made – you can make several of them, and tie a new one on anytime you want a new look.
