Scrapbooking 101: 4 Ways to Get Page Ideas

Even the most advanced scrapbookers get stumped on ideas from time to time. Looking through the same old books to get ideas can become old and honestly not help you much when you have seen it a hundred different times. That’s okay; you just need to start thinking outside the box. These few simple ideas will get your creative juices flowing in no time.

Fashion Magazines

The next time you’re out grocery shopping, pick up one of the recent fashion magazines. You won’t believe how many different ideas you can pick up from glancing at a fashion magazine. While you’re looking at the magazine, you need to pay close attention to all the color combos. You will find that these professional designers know exactly what they are doing when it comes to matching colors up with designs and looks. Don’t forget to pay close attention to how they position their photos and what kind boarders they use when showing certain photos. All of these can be replicated in your scrapbooking.

Craft Classes

Head down to your local craft store and take a craft class. This class does not need to be a scrapbooking class. In fact, it would probably help you if you took any other class besides scrapbooking. Try taking a card making class. The techniques that you learn in the crafting class can be changed up and used on your pages. Once you learn a new technique, you will find your crafty mind already has hundreds of ideas spinning just from one single class. You may even find a new hobby that you really enjoy while you’re at it.

Home Improvement TV

Stations such as HGTV can become a huge inspiration. Just because their shows are not about scrapbooking in general, it doesn’t mean you can’t get a ton of ideas from them. Most of their shows are about finding different creative solutions for things. You will find that by watching their shows with a creative eye in mind, you will come up with all kinds of ideas. Pay attention to how they solve certain problems and what kind of items they use to get them there. You will be surprised at how much you can actually learn just from watching a simple television show.

Previous Work

Something that you have probably never even thought of is going back through your earlier work. Grab some coffee and get comfy on the couch. Start looking back at the pages you completed a while back. You will find that some of your old techniques haven’t been used in a while. You will also find that you have some pages you really like and you can spin them into new pages giving you some awesome ideas.
