San Antonio Labor Day Events and Activities

With a huge heat wave in San Antonio this year, Labor Day weekend plans may not be the forefront on everyone’s mind. But, there are so many things to do in San Antonio for that extended weekend (besides you don’t have to work) it would really be a shame to pass it up just because the weather is not cooperating.

Roadway Productions is putting on a great show September 4th with wonderful Bar-B-Q for Labor Day weekend. The event will be held in Buda City Park with free parking. General Admission is $18, with VIP sections and judge seats going for $50 a head, and is very limited. However, the perks for paying to be a judge are wonderful. The line-up for music entertainment include Whiskey Business, Aaron Watson, and the Turnpike Troubadours, among many others. Children who are 8 years old and younger are free.

For sporting events on Labor Day weekend, check out the Seattle Storm versus the San Antonio Silver Stars playing on September 3rd at 7 PM at the AT&T Center. The same day a foot ball game will be held at 1 PM where the Northeaster Huskies will take on the San Antonio Roadrunners in the Alamo Dome.

If the Riverwalk is more your style, there is plenty going on downtown by the river on Labor Day weekend. September 2nd through the 5th between the hours of 11 AM and 11 PM an Arts and Crafts Fair will include many vendors right along the Riverwalk. September 7th and 8th the Dos XX Taste of Texas will allow ticket holders to “taste” Texas. Limited tickets are available, and prices range from $25 to $40, more for groups, and dependent on how many days you wish to experience the event.

Even if these events don’t suit your fancy, San Antonio is a city of rich history. Take notice of architecture in older buildings, historical sites such as the Alamo and other missions, or hop on the river boat for a great historical ride through the city on the river. For most people, Labor Day is a time to travel, so check out nearby cities such as Boerne and Fredericksburg. Shop at outlet malls in San Marcos, or visit the Texas state capital in Austin. Look for new and old parks to visit or camp in. The Guadalupe River is close enough for a day trip to cool off. Finally, take a trip to Corpus where the heat is slightly cooler and the Gulf of Mexico a very inviting swim.
