Recycled Bread Tag Wine Glass Charm

Bread tags secure together bakery items in many stores. It seems a shame to discard such a wonderfully shaped item into the garbage or recycle bin. My suggestion is to keep the bread tags and turn them into individualized one-of-a-kind wine glass charms.

Things You’ll Need:

Bread tags
Wax paper
Spray paint for plastic
Acrylic paint
Artist paintbrushes
Water
Water container
Acrylic spray sealer
Scissors
Jump rings
18-gauge wire
Wire cutter
Seed beads
Wine glass

Instructions:

Step 1 – Place the bread tags on a sheet of wax paper. Spray the surface of the bread tags with the desired color of spray paint for plastic. Allow the paint to dry 10 minutes. Repeat the process.

Step 2 – Flip the bread tags and place them on the sheet of wax paper. Spray the surface with the desired color of spray paint. Make sure to spray paint the edges of the bread tags also. Allow the paint to dry 10 minutes. Repeat the process. Allow the spray paint to dry 15 minutes before continuing.

Step 3 – Peal the bread tags from the wax paper. Remove any spray paint that extends past the edge of the bread tag with a pair of scissors.

Step 4 – Paint the desired design on the surface of the bread tag. Allow the acrylic paint to dry completely. Turn the tag and paint a design on the back. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before continuing.

Step 5 – Spray two to three coats of acrylic spray sealer over the front and back of the painted bread tag. Allow the sealer to dry 10 minutes between coats.

Step 6 – Insert a jump ring through the hole at the end of the bread tag. Set aside.

Step 7 – Cut a piece of 18-gauge wire approximately 2-inches long.

Step 8 – Slide a seed bead onto the 18-gauge wire. Bend one end of the wire over the seed bead to use as the knot at the end of the wire.

Step 9 – Continue to string seed beads onto the wire until the last bead is approximately ¼-inch from the end. Bend the end of the wire over the last seed bead. Cut the excess wire with a wire cutter so it is flush with the beads.

Step 10 – Slide the jump ring onto the beaded wire. Wrap the wire around the stem of a wine glass.

String a 4-inch section of wire with seed beads. Add the bread tag at the very top. Wrap the long wire around the entire stem of the wine glass with the bread tag hanging at the top as the wine glass charm.
