The air is crisp and thin
The animals are settling in
Squirrels are on their scavenger hunt
The ends of branches without leaves are blunt
A doe curls up with her young fawn
The dew sparkles as frost now at dawn
Farmers now empty their fields of crops
It’s as if every one of God’s creatures stops
It’s time to take a look around
Time to enjoy the absence of sound
Perfect serenity has arrived for this year
The annual arrival of autumn is here
