If you’ve got a man cave at your house it can be fun – at least for a guy – to fix it up with everything a man loves. Whether you hang bikini-clad women’s posters on the wall, or you hang a giant, neon beer sign, a man wants his man cave to be full of his most loved things. And, one thing you simply can’t do without is a refrigerator. Whether full-size, or small, you’ll need a place to put your beer, and keep it cold. When you buy your beer this week, make sure it’s canned, and you can make some really cool lights for your favorite spot in the house.
Start with a beer can that hasn’t been opened. You’ll remove the top from the can but a traditional can opener – electric or hand-operated – isn’t suitable. Instead, you’ll need the type of can opener that opens from around the sides of the top. That way, the can never looks like it’s been opened. Cut the top off of one can for each light you want. Pour out the contents, drink the beer, rinse the can well, and dry it.
Use a small drill bit, or even a nail, to create the design you want for the can. You can make holes along the lettering on the can, so that the name of the beer will glow with light, or you can create a different design. If you’re hammering nails it can help to tightly stuff the can with plastic bags, chunks of foam, or something similar. This can help keep the can from buckling in as you hammer. Use a really small nail for best results.
After you’ve made the holey design you want, so that the light can shine through the beer can, all you have to do is choose your light source. Use a tiny tap light inside each one, opt for a string of battery-operated lights, or go with a glow stick, which you snap to light. After the light is inside the can, replace the lid, and set it where you want it.
The beer lights fit right in to any theme you have going on for the man cave and they offer a little more light around the room. You know you’ll be drinking some beer, so why throw those cans away, when you can turn them into cool lights? They’re fun and easy to make; you’ll enjoy them for many years.
