Make Money from Junk

Do you ever find yourself needing a little extra cash? Myself and others have found away to find junk around our house and on the streets to fix up and resale for more than it was worth in the first place. For example last week I found a old dresser brought it home and took out some stain and got to work. I have tons of nobs laying around from other dressers I picked up and couldn’t use them but keep some parts. Once I got the nobs put on and a fresh coat of stain it looked brand new. There are tons of things to do this with, and you always have the art factor to take things un-fixable and making them into pieces of art. Tables are always easy to make from just about anything and people seem to buy them fast.
So now that you have fixed up some old junk your ready to sell. I like to sell at my local flea market but you can always have a good old fashion yard sale. Remember people are going to want to haggle a lot so always start high on your prices because they will go down. When trying to come up with a price to sell my items for I always think about what money I have in it. For example the dresser I was talking about above cost me about $10 in gas to find, $2 for the stain, and about 3 hours of my time. $12 total cash and I like to make my profit in my labor time. I normally like to say i’m worth about $15 a hour so I will try to sell the dresser for $50.
Don’t give up and remember practice makes perfect. If your first piece doesn’t look good don’t give up it can take a few tries to get a piece right. Make sure you keep up with what you spend and how much time you spend on the piece. It helps to treat it like a hobby so your having fun and you may even be able to find someone that likes doing the same thing and you can team up. All in all I make about $10-15k a year from this hobby and you can too.
