Jessica Simpson has finally confirmed that she’s pregnant, and she broke her baby news in a rather creative way. However, was her big reveal better than Beyonce Knowles baby bump extravaganza?
Well, Jessica’s baby news was pretty big — in fact, it was such a big story that she managed to temporarily steal the spotlight away from Kim Kardashian’s divorce news. However, Beyonce did just a little bit better — she stole the whole show at the MTV VMAs. Her baby bump reveal was such big news that it even overshadowed Lady Gaga’s over-the-top performance as a man. Gaga even reportedly went goo-goo over Bey’s bump, making multiple visits to her dressing room to rub her bulging belly (but unfortunately security guards didn’t recognize Mama Monster in her Jo Calderone costume, and she was banned from the bump at first).
And here’s another way Bey’s reveal was better than Jessica’s — she was actually at the VMAs and performing in front of millions because people still care about her music. Jess might be a fashion success, but she doesn’t have quite the fan following that Beyonce does these days.
Jess was also missing the surprise factor — there’s been speculation about her pregnancy since last year, but the blonde bombshell’s waistline recently exploded in a big way, making her pregnancy announcement just as unsurprising as Kim and Kris Humphries’ divorce. However, Bey’s baby bump reveal on the black carpet and onstage at the VMAs definitely came as a sweet surprise (Kanye West certainly couldn’t hide his excitement).
But while Jessica has been pregnant for years according to the tabloids, she can’t beat Bey when it comes to a pregnancy controversy — there have been crazy allegations that the star has been sporting a fake baby bump ever since the VMAs because she wanted it to look more prominent.
In addition to sparking different bump rumors, the lovely ladies went with very different fashion choices to reveal their baby bumps — Queen B was stylish in a gorgeous red gown and sparkly tuxedo suit, while Jess did her best to look scary by wrapping herself with rags. She does score extra points for choosing to reveal her pregnancy on Halloween, but the way she worked a pun into her announcement was just a bit too silly. On her official website, Jess posted a pic of herself dressed like a mummy with this caption: “It’s true! I am going to be a mummy!”
Beyonce also got a little cheesy onstage at the VMAs when she said this: “I want you all to feel the love inside of me.” We’ll call this one a draw.
Bey does have Jess beat when it comes to the way she was inspired to reveal her baby news — she said that the idea to show off her bump at the VMAs came to her in a dream. But Jess still has a dream wedding to look forward to.
