Help in Tucson for Homeless Women with Children

New Beginnings is a special place as it is not only a homeless shelter for immediate care, but it is the path to an upward spiral to for mothers with children in need. Their mission is to help homeless women with children to build a better life in several ways. There are three stages to the help that women and children can receive at New Beginnings.

First is the Family Shelter. The New Beginnings shelter provides emergency housing for up to 90 days. During the stay her, women will be assisted in finding employment and the basic needs will be met. Mothers work toward the goal of transitional housing. The NBWC staff helps families set goals and reach those goals.

Transitional housing is also run by New Beginnings. A family may stay for up to two years. During this time they will work on enhancing their skills and learning resources so they may move on to permanent housing.

The third program offered is the Children’s Program. Children are coached with activities meant to improve coping skills, improve their self-esteem and even receive homework help.

An annual Tucson Tradition starting in October is the Annual Poinsettia Sale. This sale has been running over 20 years and proceeds support this important shelter in Tucson. New Beginnings for Women & Children welcomes donations and especially appreciate those who can donate a fixed amount each month to help them provide consistent assistance for their clients. As they are limited in storage space, they have a wish list posted on their web site for items most needed. NBWC is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization.
