He Loved Her

She thought she found true romance with a man who promised all,

He held her hand and held her heart so she allowed herself to fall.

He was her knight in shining armor who would be forever by her side,

With words of love he won her and took her as his bride.

But the honeymoon was over when he flew into a rage

He didn’t do things by the book, he wrote it page by page.

His anger was a fierce thing that cut her new found pride,

At a loss of how to handle him, her spirit slowly died.

He used her insecurities and built upon her fears,

He used his words against her while he mocked her love to tears.

He slowly had her cornered until she had no where to go,

Through words he cruelly shattered her before she ever felt the blow.

He bloodied her and he bruised her and he loved her endlessly,

He shaped her and he molded her to what he wanted her to be.

She had no fight left inside her when it was time for her to fight,

She couldn’t tell him he was wrong when he knew that he was right.

She knew that he would kill her rather than set her free,

So she stayed because there was no place else for her to be.

It wasn’t that she loved him as he said he still loved her,

They lived a life of sickness for which there was no cure.

So he lived a life of violence and she lived a life of pain,

Silence only tempered by the threat of harm again.

All because he loved her.
