Great Home Decor Projects Made Using Pallets

You know those ugly pallets that shipping companies use to ship stuff on and that stores often throw away? Well, they are showing up all over the decorating world, and their uses are endless. Who knew something so ugly could turn into something that you would actually want in your home? Here are three of my favorite tutorials that turn pallets into great home décor items.

Sheryl Salisbury Photography: Pallet Swing

This pallet swing from Sheryl at Sheryl Salisbury Photography makes my heart swoon. I can totally see it on my front porch, and it makes me want to curl up on it with a cup of hot tea.

This swing is made completely out of an old pallet with some nylon rope for hanging, and Minwax for staining. This is an extremely simple project that does require cutting the pallet down, and rearranging a few of the boards but doesn’t require any special wood working skills.

Sheryl’s tutorial is great in the fact that she explains each step and offers pictures to illustrate it.

Better Homes and Gardens: Pallet Coffee Table

You know pallets have made it big when Better Homes and Gardens are using them for projects. This pallet coffee table made by Better Homes and Gardens would fit perfectly in any house whether it is a $30,000 or $330,000 house.

The coffee table is made using a pallet, some chest legs, and some safety glass cut for the top. I love the pretty distressed red color they used to paint it, but you could use whatever color would fit best with your home’s décor, as they table is easy to customize.

Shoestring Pavilion: Pallet Loungers
Titti at Shoestring Pavilion made some gorgeous lounge chairs out of pallets. She was able to make two chairs using four pallets. These chairs are heavy duty, and would look great beside your pool or on your patio.

The lounge chairs are made using just the pallets and some paint. Assembling the chairs is just a matter of cutting the pallets, and rearranging them. Titti’s tutorial doesn’t have any pictures of the construction process, but she does offer a pretty good description of how they are made, and offers plenty of after shots.
