Get the Look: Fall’s 60s Makeup Trend

Fall fashion is looking back to the 1960s for influence. Fall is also taking a liking to the iconic beauty of the 1960s. If you have forgotten what 60s beauty looks like think back to such beauty icons like British model Twiggy or Edie Sedgwick for inspiration. For the modern 60s-influenced look I am incorporating the it color of 2011, gold. Learn how I created a 60s-influenced beauty look that is both modern and fresh.

The Base

Really any type of face finish works. You can go for a matte, semi-matte, dewy, or glowing finish. For my look I chose a glowing finish. I used NYX Concealer in A Jar in Tan, Avon’s Smooth Minerals Powder Foundation in Pure Beige and Smooth Minerals Radiant Veil in Natural Glow.

The 60s-Inspired Eye

The most notable beauty look from the 60s is the heavily made up eye and pale lip. The iconic eye look featured a pale shadow base, black or dark shadow along the crease, thick black eyeliner along the upper and lower lashes and long false eyelashes. For a more modern 60s-inspired eye that can work for day and night I used the following:

L’Oreal De-Crease Eye Shadow Base Avon TRUE COLOR Eyeshadow Quad in Fresh Cut Greens Ulta Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black Avon’s ExtraLasting Mascara in Black

Get the look

Apply primer to entire lid and brow bone Swept shadow #2 (second lightest shade) across entire lid Applied shadow #1 (lightest shade) on brow bone Shadow #4 (darkest shade) applied at crease, extending to outer edge of lid Apply shadow #4 at lower lash line Create a thick line using your liquid eyeliner at the upper lash line Apply one to three coats of mascara to upper lashes and apply one coat to bottom lashes

The 60s-Inspired Lip

The pale lip is the second half of the iconic beauty look of the 60s. For a modern twist I used this year’s color, gold. For most of the year high-impact gold has been the gold trend in makeup. However, pale gold made waves on the fall 2011 runways. That is what I chose for my pale lip. I did not have a pale gold lipstick in my beauty bag so I improvised:

I applied a moisturizing lip ointment to my lips I lined and filled my lips in with a nude lip liner Then I applied a pale shimmery gold shadow to my lips

However, these pale golden lipsticks may do the trick for you in one step, Sephora’s Lip Attitude-Star in either funky beige or impertinent nude

Check out the photos attached with this article to see the final results. The final look is trendy yet not over-the-top making it suitable for day and night. I used a green pallet in this example; however, any color pallet can work depending on what colors work well for you and how intense you want your eye makeup to look. You can also opt to wear false eyelashes to create a full fringe and wide-eyed look. If you are inclined to try this look out for yourself, leave a comment detailing your experience. Remember to modify and improvise to create a look that works for you!
