What’s Trending for Tuesday, October 18th: Batman, Selena Gomez, Cameras and British Boybands

Twitter has become one of the most popular websites on the internet. Whether everybody wants to admit it or not, the trending topics on Twitter are what’s on the minds of people all around the world. So what’s on the minds of the people of Earth on the morning of Tuesday, October 18th?

The highest non-promotional topic on Twitter is WE PROTECT SELENA. WE PROTECT SELENA is the latest cry from the teeny boppers of the world in support of Disney starlet Selena Gomez. Apparently Selena Gomez has gotten death threats serious enough to call in the LAPD’s Threat Management Unit. It’s nice that Selena Gomez has plenty of support from her fans but honestly 99% of these fans would be useless in a scenario where they really faced a 46-year-old mental patient looking to kill their favorite actress. Let’s hope that at least a few of the WE PROTECT SELENA crowd includes her actual bodyguards, or at least somebody with a baseball bat or something.

Thomas Vermaelen is nowhere to be seen on the United States trending topics but the Europeans Twitterites have propelled him to the second highest trending topic. Most of the Arsenal fans are talking about Thomas Vermaelen signing a new contract but some of the Vermaelen talk is also discussing his current injury situation. Vermaelen was injured at the end of August and has not returned since but he claims he is feeling better every day.

Canon 1D is the third trending topic on Twitter this morning but it’s hard to tell why. Originally Canon 1D referred to the brand of camera. The latest news is that the Canon EOS-1D X will be coming in March of 2012. However, 1D is also the abbreviation of British boyband One Direction. The One Direction fans are all wondering, “is Canon 1D about One Direction”? All the Canon 1D fans are scoffing at the One Direction fans saying something to the effect of, “you’re a moron if you think Canon 1D is about One Direction”. Here’s the question though. If every Tweet is about whether Canon 1D stands for One Direction or not, then isn’t Canon 1D actually about One Direction and not the camera? All I know is that camera nerds vs. British boyband lovers is one of the most unusual Twitter feuds in a long time.

The next trending topic is…you know what, forget about the rest of the trending topics. Let’s get right down to what’s really important, today’s promotional trending topic. Today is the release of Arkham City, the sequel to the 2009 action-adventure video game starring DC Comics’ Batman. Arkham Asylum was one of the best video games of the past 10 years and easily the best video game adaptation of a comic book of all-time. It’s easy to be wary of movie sequels but often the video game industry succeeds at making their sequels even bigger and better than the previous game. Arkham City is a must have, surely even the Canon 1D and One Direction fans can agree on that.

This article is about Twitter so obviously Lee Andrew Henderson has an account. Follow Lee Andrew Henderson @LeeAHenderson now unless you are buying Arkham City or protecting Selena Gomez. If that is the case it can wait until tomorrow I suppose.
