The Easter Parade

Mrs. Campbell’s twenty fifth-graders had a wonderful idea. How about an Easter parade? The week before Easter twenty little bunnies went from classroom to classroom leaving behind Easter eggs for all of the students in elementary school. The fifth-graders hopped down the hall carrying baskets of goodies for all of the children in the school. The principle said to Mrs. Campbell, “We will give your Easter parade a chance this year but if it creates a commotion, I will not allow it again.” “Yes Mrs. Mann,” replied Mrs. Campbell. Afterall, she had confidence in the ability of her class to put on a wonderful Easter parade for the rest of the students at the small country school where she had worked for the past three years.

First graders took eggs handed out by anxious fifth-graders. Their little voices in unison sang out, “Thank you for the Easter eggs.” The bunnies hopped through the other classrooms of students leaving treats and delighting the children. All of the students seemed to enjoy the Easter parade.

The following week the classroom was full of letters for Mrs. Campbell’s class to read. Mrs. Campbell told her students, “pick a letter and read it out loud to the class.”

Alice a shy, red head read the first letter: To all of the students in Mrs. Campbell’s class, Mom told me that there would be no Easter baskets for me and my sister this year. My dad is laid-off from the factory. That is why the Easter eggs meet so much to me and my sister. We each recieved one in school during your Easter parade. Thank you for thinking of a way to make Easter especially fun for me, my little sister, and all of the fourth graders.

~Katie Owens, 4th grade.

Jason read the next letter it was from a second grader: To all of the students in Mrs. Campbell’s class, My father is away in Afghanistan this year fighting for our freedom. I was really glad to have the Easter parade to write to my dad about. It will cheer him up. Thank you for the nice Easter egg. I shared it with my mom and 2 year old baby brother.

There were many more heart-felt letters to read, this was only the beginning.
