When December is in full swing, it’s hard not to get in the spirit of the holidays when you see trees blinking with lights, manger scenes all lit up, and candles in menorahs flickering. You, too, can glow with holiday cheer without looking like you’re in one of those over-the-top reindeer sweaters. Here’s how to bring the celebrations into your daily looks without going overboard.
A Touch of Color
Bring red, green, blue, gold, or silver into any outfit through subtle accents. This even works if you have to wear a uniform for work, whether you’re a nurse or a worker at a chain store. For example, a red bow in your hair is always appropriate in December, but it’s subtle enough for even a shy fashionista. A headband with a festive accent also works. Wear a scarf or even tie a short sash with a Christmas scene around your wrist as a makeshift bracelet. Be warned that a busy pattern definitely brings attention to wherever you wear such an item so make sure you get that manicure if you’re going to bring attention to your hands.
It’s All in the Nails
Speaking of manicures, that alone is one way to decorate yourself for the holidays without relying on your wardrobe or accessories. Nobody can call you Miss Scrooge with red, green or Christmas-patterned nails. Get creative by doing red and white stripes for a candy cane look. Draw yellow stars over nails that are painted blue. Use Christmas stickers for an extra touch over solid colors. Experiment and switch it up every few days for a fun, funky and yet small way of bringing merriment to your wardrobe.
Red Shoes
Get inspired by the famous ballet and the old tale by Hans Christian Andersen entitled “Red Shoes.” Whether they’re flats, heels or tennis shoes, wearing red shoes is fashionable all through the year. At Christmas time, though, they make the perfect shoe choice for many reasons. Not only are they fun, funky and festive, they can be creatively paired with outfits that are both matching and contrasting. For the office Christmas party, try red shoes with a little black dress for a fabulous look that sets a festive tone without going too far. Achieving just the right look is better than going too far for attention. Be comfortable in your own skin as you are, and just rely on a few savvy fashion choices to help you achieve the look you want.
