Stop Talking and Get to Work

“That is enough idle chatter, gentlemen!” Chief McHenry ordered as he sauntered over to Knight and Kroy. “I take it you two have finished your case?” The chief added, sighing. “Well. . .no, but.” Kroy’s voice trailed off.

“Then stop talking and get to work!” He grunted. McHenry was meandering toward his office when he turned toward James. “By the way, Knight, no one wants to hear about your love life.”

“I would hate to say it, but, McHenry is right. We better start looking for a suspect.” James replied. “How do you suppose we go about doing this? We haven’t even made a dent in this case.” Kroy remarked. “No, but at least we have a start. We know all the cases are connected.”

“I guess so since Lindsay gave us cases that were committed by the same person.” He taunted. “Do not make fun of me. I am under a lot of stress.”

“Please, your wife wants you to shag her just to get pregnant and you call that stress!” Kroy laughed. “Let’s not talk about that! Can we just concentrate on catching this guy please?” James urged in embarrassment. Jonathan sat back in his chair grinning victoriously. “Stop smiling.” He replied distracted. He picked up Lindsay’s list and looked it over. “You would think by the length of this list that Lindsay named ever criminal in England.” Kroy remarked. As his eyes moved down the list he stopped cold. He sat up straight in his chair. “James, I think you should take a look at this.” Handing James the list, a certain look of hesitation crossed his face. “What is that look for?” Knight asked taking the list from his partner. “You won’t be mad, but let’s just say that it’s someone from your past.”

“Jordan Chavalier, why doesn’t that surprise me?” James returned. “When was the last time you saw your cousin anyway?” Kroy joked. “Jordan is not my cousin. I can hardly consider him one since I only met him once.”

“Yes, but he is your mother’s, brother’s, son, right?” Kroy asked. “We may share a blood line, but I do not consider him family.” James sighed. “Are we going to visit the young lad?” He murmured. “I guess we will have to since he is on the list.”

“Yeah it will be so nice. You’ll have a little family reunion.” He snickered. “We are not going to see him just yet. There are forty-four suspects where he came from.”

“Who would you like to start with?” Jonathan asked. “I think we should start with the first man on our list, Heath Wittcomber.”
