Senior Caregivers: It’s More Than Caregiving

Hiring or selecting a caregiver for a loved one is tough. There are so many choices; which one to pick? Does one hire a friend of a friend or go through an agency?

The important factor to remember amidst the pricing, the reputation, and the names is this: this person or group of people are going to become friends with you loved one. Yes, friends.

When you spend a given amount of time with someone, you befriend them. A true caregiver, cares about the person they are working with/for. They befriend your mom, your dad, your grandma. They learn what they like to eat, drink, watch, read, and talk about. They learn about their past – likes, loves, children, hobbies, jobs, family and friends.

You’re selecting an angel to visit with, watch over and care for your loved one, a true friend for however long you need them.

“How?” You may wonder. Talk to your friends. ask them about their experiences. Call your local retirement communities or someone you know in a related business. They know who comes through and who doesn’t.

As your mother probably told you, choose your friends wisely.
