Review of Tre Marie Panettone Milanese: An Italian Dessert

I have made a few homemade Italian baked goods, and like Italian cuisine in general. So there I was shopping at Trader Joe’s and I came upon this dome-shaped decorative box that caught my attention, and Lo and behold, there inside the box was an Italian cake/bread that I have not yet baked or ever purchased. I decided not only to purchase this, but also to write a product review regarding my impression.

A worker at the market informed me that this panettone is made with a little more citrus flavor than some brands, so as to add a little contrast to the sweet taste. When I tried this, my impression was that it mostly tasted like a sweet bread and actually had some for breakfast with a pat of butter. Although when I gave some to a friend, she included it with her meal as a dessert.

This panettone has a light and fluffy texture, along with strong hints of citrus flavor stemming from candied citrus fruit, orange peel, and diced citron fruit. Although I’m not fond of raisins, the soft golden raisins baked into this dough makes quite a refreshing addtion. As far as the price goes, at ten dollars I got a great bargain! Its decorative container has a handle attached, so I thought it would make a nice gift and decided to purchase another as a holiday gift. I think this would also make a great gift for any occasion.

The net weight of this panettone is one pound and ten ounces. A serving size is 1/9 of the cake with nine servings per container. Calories per serving equals 330, with 130 of them from fat. One serving has 9 grams of saturated fat, no trans fat, 95 mg’s cholesterol, 125 mg’s of sodium, 44 grams of total carbohydrates, 3 grams of dietary fiber, 19 grams of sugars, and 5 grams of protein.
