I usually don’t purchase high-end lipsticks, but because I received this lipstick as a sample while buying skin care products from Estee Lauder, I decided to try it out. The Estee Lauder Pure Color lipsticks come in a beautiful golden tube with the color showing on the bottom. The packaging of this lipstick is absolutely beautiful and really shows off for the price.
The color itself is a beautiful red color. It leans to the orange side and is rather warm, and it is not a very sharp red, which can be hard to pull off. It seems to be a very user-friendly red that will work for a great many skin tones. The lipstick itself looks like it has golden shimmers, but when applied to the lips, it is barely noticeable. In fact, the lipstick appears to be nearly matte. In certain lights, though, you can see the shimmer. I do not think the color is particularly unique, but this is really a very nice color. It is rather sheer, so it is definitely buildable. It won’t be too intense for daily wear either, which is really great for a red lipstick.
However, the creamy texture of this lipstick compensates for the matte finish. Though it is not nearly as creamy as some other lipsticks, it is definitely on the creamier side and will not dry out your lips, which would be a disappointment in such an expensive lipstick. The lipstick applies really easily on the lips because of the texture, but it will be very apparent if you have dry or flaky lips. Be sure to exfoliate and moisturize before using lipstick.
Though it is creamy, this lipstick does last a fair amount of time. This is especially important for red lipsticks, which can look very bad when worn off. Of course, it’s best to be safe and carry this lipstick with you, but it definitely is not very high maintenance. There is a bit of scent to this product. It is hard to describe, but it is not unpleasant. However, if you are sensitive to scents, especially on the lips, make sure to test this out before making a commitment to buying it.
Overall, I would say this is a very nice lipstick. Because I cannot justify buying a high end lipstick, especially a red one, I would probably not repurchase this. But I do think it is a very good quality lipstick, definitely better than most drugstore ones. It has a beautiful container and a great color that would work for a lot of people. If the price is not a problem, I would definitely recommend the product itself.
