I was heading home for lunch today when I realized we really didn’t have a whole lot in our house (other than some chicken soup and that isn’t very filling). So, since my wife was home today, I decided to surprise her by stopping off at one of our local Kwik Trip convenience stores and buying some hot food (perfect for such a cold day).
I ended up with a couple slices of their pizza but also noticed something I hadn’t seen before, Cheddar Cheese Nuggets. They looked interesting and they weren’t too bad of a price so I picked up the box of those too.
Since this was the first time I purchased this item, I really wasn’t too sure what to expect from it. I like cheese nuggets. But, I have had mixed results with them in the past. Some are too salty. Others are too greasy and there are also some that just aren’t very memorable.
Unfortunately, after trying these, I think they fell into that last category.
There were a little over a dozen in the box so my wife (who told me she had actually seen these sold in the past at a different Kwik Trip store) and I split them and I gave the extra one to my youngest daughter. She normally likes things like this but she took one bite of hers and spit it out. At first, I thought it was just too hot. But, when I tried mine, I honestly didn’t notice anything enjoyable about them. There was no flavor; not even from the cheese. In fact, for a moment after taking my first bite, I found myself wondering if there really was cheese inside them or if it was just breading.
The nuggets also didn’t prove to be very filling. I’ve had others that would have been a meal themselves. But, without the pizza, I don’t think these would have stayed with me very long; even if I would have eaten all of them instead of sharing them.
I have purchased plenty of hot foods from Kwik Trip in the past and have not had many complaints about the items they sell. However, this did prove to be a pretty big disappointment for me because they simply did not live up to expectations. This is something I have no intention of buying again in the future and, after trying them, I now understand why I haven’t seen this item sold before.
