People’s Choice Awards 2012: Predictions of Future Films Based on the Winners

The People’s Choice Awards has always been a popularity contest. It is the only time movies that are not artistic or have life-altering plots have a chance to win an award. While the award means little to critics, it does show producers what moviegoers want to see.

The People’s Choice Awards 2012 continued to provide that information for filmmakers. Looking at the winners gives us a glimpse of what to expect to see at the theaters in the future.

Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2″

It was no surprise, really, that Harry Potter hefted the glass award twice. Now that the movies are complete, fans will need to find a new obsession. That is why the prediction is more young adult novel series will become movies. It is already a growing trend, and it will probably keep growing.

We’ve seen the “Twilight” books made into movies, as well as “The Chronicles of Narnia.” In 2013, we’ll have the next installment of “Percy Jackson” with “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Sea of Monsters.”

Of course, we have to take into consideration that Chloe Grace Moretz from “Hugo” won the award for Favorite Actor Under 25, beating out the entire “Harry Potter” cast. So, maybe we’ll see more cutting-edge books, instead of series, hitting the big screen.

Favorite Drama Movie: “Water for Elephants”

“Water for Elephants,” based on the book by Sara Gruen, won fans over with a look at the circus and forbidden love. It seems that popular books are quickly becoming movies, whether they are excellent adaptations or failures.

Most likely, popular books will continue to become movies, completely negating the need to read when the movie is readily available. Oh, and more Robert Pattinson is in the future. Votes for “Water for Elephants” most likely came from “Twilight” fans.

Favorite Comedy Movie: “Bridesmaids”

“Bridesmaids” marks the beginning of female-fueled comedy movies, proving that women are just as funny as men and deserve to crack jokes on the big screen instead of just “Saturday Night Live.” We just might see more female comedies, for good or bad. Here’s hoping we get to see more Melissa McCarthy.

Have any other predictions? What movies might we see in theaters based on the winners at the “People’s Choice Awards”?
