Naxos Island, Greece is the largest island in the Cyclades chain of islands. It is also a lively tourist destination that is considered to be one of the most often visited islands in Greece. Naxos is known as one of the more fertile islands in Greece due to Mount Zas as it appears to trap the clouds causing greater rainfall in the area. Naxos is known for their potato growing and is considered one of the most self-sufficient of all the islands due to its ability to produce its own fruits and vegetables.

In Chora Naxos, the capital city of Naxos, you will find the castle that was ordered to be built by Marco Sanudo after he had conquered the Cyclades in 1207 and was using Naxos as his center. The castle now houses the Archaeological Museum of Naxos and showcases the Venetian style of architecture, you will also find the famous Portara which translates into “Big Door” which is the gate to the unfinished Temple of Apollo.

You will find many of the villages in Naxos to be exquisite in their charm and most offer many places to stop and have a bite to eat. You will also find many beaches to enjoy in Naxos where there is always some activity happening. You can windsurf, swim, snorkel, dive, kite surf and just about anything else your heart desires can be found here. You will also not want for a lovely place to stay while on the island as there are many hotels and resorts available to choose from which offer a plethora of activities to enjoy during your stay.

You will also be able to rent a vehicle if you prefer to explore the island on your own, but there are several different tours and excursions that are offered by local hotels that would allow you to access the best areas of the island.
