How to Add Garlic Flavor to Pizza Dough

Homemade Pizzas are easy to make and fun for the entire family. However, skipping simple steps can keep your homemade pizza from tasting as delicious as you’d hoped. Many spices, vegetables, and seasonings can be added to homemade pizza dough to enhance its flavor. The best part is, weather your pizza dough is homemade or store bought the flavor can be personalized to suit your family’s preference. The most popular homemade pizza dough is garlic flavored. Garlic pizza dough easily complements a variety of toppings.

If you are using a homemade pizza dough, kneed the dough to the desired thickness. Place the pizza dough on a floured surface to prevent sticking. Sprinkle finely chopped garlic cloves atop the pizza dough and then roll with your rolling pin. An alternative is to sprinkle garlic powder liberally onto the pizza dough, concentrating on the outer part.

For a more intense garlic flavor, saute garlic and oil (olive oil is recommended). Alternatively, you can use butter instead of an oil. When the garlic is browned, spread it atop of the pizza dough. Cover the garlic with tomato sauce, cheese and toppings. This method is useful for store bought pizza crust.

If you do not want the garlic baked into your pizza, make the same sauteed oil and garlic mixture to drizzle over your homemade pizza when it’s done. You may also use the garlic and oil as a dipping sauce. For an easier dipping sauce or drizzle, use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic. Microwave the garlic powder and olive oil for 10-15 seconds depending on microwave settings. Alternatively, you can use butter instead of an oil.

A flavorful, homemade pizza doesn’t have to come out of a delivery box. Adding garlic to your pizza crust will enhance the flavor drastically with little effort.
