Holiday Healthy Eating Guide

The holidays do not have to be a time when we become gluttonous and go off track with our diet. It may seem shocking to many but there are great ways you can eat healthy during the holidays. Here are a few tips for enjoying the holidays while trying to remain healthy.

First, it is important to acknowledge that eating healthy is possible even during this busy holiday season. It is important to make a mental note to stay committed. Sometimes talking to ourselves in a positive manner is half the battle.

Next, don’t beat yourself up or degrade yourself if you do happen to eat something that falls on Santa’s naughty list. If that happens simply recommit to your healthy lifestyle and move on.

Once you have received your invite to the party it is a great idea to eat before you go. This way you aren’t feeling famished when you arrive and you will be able cut down on your portion sizes in an easier fashion.

If there happens to be appetizers that are being passed around take ones that you want take a bit, and put it down. Often we get carried away and lose track of how much we are eating because we are simply eating way too fast. Slow it down even for something as small as an appetizer.

If there is a buffet it is a good idea to check it out before you serve yourself. If you can get a good look at what is there you can also take a small sampling of the things you want to try.

There are definitely certain things you want to try and avoid consuming. Alcohol is perhaps at the very top of that list. It carries a lot of sugar and also does great detriment to your metabolism. If you must drink to limit the consumption to a drink every hour or so. Try to drink as much water as possible or club soda and lime as well as diet soda are great alternatives. Other drinks such as punches, egg nogs, and hot chocolates can be high in calories so try to avoid them if you can.

Finally, try to get some exercise in where you can. If that means going for a walk before the party or dancing around the Christmas tree or racing to the mall for a gift it is all about making smart choices.
