A Woman’s Ode to Christmas

Thank you, Christmas, for the joy you bring

(mostly to my family when they realize Mommy’s ‘Christmas Crazies’ are over).

Thank you, Christmas, for the songs we sing

(which I’m sure will be playing in retail stores at Halloween time again next year ).

Thank you, Christmas, for the weather so cold

(and saying, “Bye-bye” to regularly shaving my legs…you know you do it, too)!

Thank you, Christmas, for the traditions we uphold

(turning our vehicles into miniature light shows and reindeer, running up our electricity bills because we will not be outdone by our neighbors, etc…).

Thank you, Christmas, for the motivation to get in shape

(so I can brag about being a size 6 while I nibble on cookies and cakes and have a glass of eggnog…or 6).

Thank you, Christmas, for the reality you help us escape

(sorry to tell you, Doc, but Santa says it’s totally normal for a grown-up to believe in make-believe).

For all of this, and so much more, we thank you, Christmas, the holiday we adore (even if it does cause us to enter a temporary place of mild insanity)!
