2012 Mardi Gras Florida Events

While some people are gearing up to travel to New Orleans for the all too publicized Mardi Gras events and to participate in the ultimate beads challenge, others are wondering what to do to celebrate Mardi Gras in Florida. Fortunately, Florida has some of the most beautiful weather so everyone gets a little more skin action than other places, but what on earth are the best things to do in Florida for Mardi Gras? There is no right answer, but there is something fun no matter what part of the state you’re in.

North Florida

If you’re looking to spend a day in the sun with your family, friends, or even alone, Pensacola has you covered. In the Panhandle, Floridians, or visitors, can enjoy the festivities of the city of Pensacola to celebrate Mardi Gras. This year, the events span from Feb.17-Feb. 19. There are various parades to enjoy including a boat parade, a traditional street parade, and a beach side parade. Of course each parade is equipped with masked groups throwing out beads, candy, and other goodies to onlookers. Admission to all parades are free, just be sure to arrive early to snag a good spot. Central Florida

Every year, true spirit of Mardi Gras is captured in the massive celebration held at Universal Orlando. It’s not the “happiest place on earth” but it will be this Mardi Gras season! There’s something for everyone, roller coasters, authentic Cajun food in the French Quarter, live music, and street parade. Parents, when you’re ready to have your own fun, be sure to hit the after party at Universal City Walk. The festivities are on Saturdays and other select nights. Musical performances to include: Boys II Men, Kelly Clarkson, J Cole, Plain White T’s, and Sugar Ray. South Florida

What is Mardi Gras without pounds and pounds of crawfish and live music? Not Mardi Gras! If Ft. Lauderdale is your stomping ground, check out the 13th Annual Mardi Gras bash at Lulu’s. Admission includes 1000+ pounds of crawfish, Mardi Grad masks, and complimentary drinks to get the night started. This event is for adults only and all proceeds from the fun event will benefit the Covenant House of Florida. For more information about this event, including ticket information, click here.

No matter the city or the state, the Mardi Gras spirit is all around us. In true French fashion, there’s only one thing to remember this Mardi Gras season, laissez les bonne temps roulet!
