2012 Shortstop (SS) Deep Sleepers

Tyler Pastornicky – Atl – SS (22)

After a breakout season in 2011 while playing at both Double A and Triple A, Pastornicky enters the 2012 season with an excellent opportunity to claim the Braves starting shortstop job. Having yet to make his major league debut, Pastornicky is still considered major league ready and will be relied upon to contribute significantly in the Braves offensive lineup in 2012. Offering 30 stolen base potential and excellent on base skills, Pastornicky could become a solid run scoring option as an ideal #2 hitter in the Braves lineup.

2011 Minor League Double A Stats: 355 AB, 50 R, 6 HR, 36 RBI, 20 SB, .299 AVG

2011 Minor League Triple A Stats: 104 AB, 15 R, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 7 SB, .365 AVG

2011 Major League Stats: NA

2012 Stat Projections: 80 R, 8 HR, 55 RBI, 25 SB, .275 AVG

Sean Rodriguez – TB – SS (26)

Once considered a top power hitting prospect, Rodriguez has failed to live up to expectations during the 2010 and 2011 seasons as an everyday starter in the Tampa Bay Rays lineup. Possessing the ability to hit 20 home runs and tally 10 stolen bases in a season, Rodriguez has the potential to become an offensive force if he can figure out how to hit major league pitching on a consistent basis. With the ability to play any infield position, Rodriguez should once again be an everyday fixture in the Rays starting lineup in 2012.

2011 Major League Stats: 373 AB, 45 R, 8 HR, 36 RBI, 11 SB, .223 AVG

2012 Stat Projections: 60 R, 18 HR, 70 RBI, 15 SB, .265 AVG

Ruben Tejada – NYM – SS/2B (22)

Receiving significant playing time in the Mets starting lineup at both shortstop and second base during the 2011 season, Tejada is poised to take over as the Mets everyday starting shortstop in 2012. Tallying an excellent .303 batting average in 175 at bats after the All-Star game last season, Tejada could continue that trend and tally a batting average around .290 as the Braves potential #2 hitter in the lineup. On the downside, Tejada offers virtually zero power hitting ability and only margin speed as a stolen base threat.

2011 Minor League Triple A Stats: 207 AB, 26 R, 3 HR, 21 RBI, 4 SB, .246 AVG

2011 Major League Stats: 328 AB, 31 R, 0 HR, 36 RBI, 5 SB, .284 AVG

2012 Stat Projections: 70 R, 3 HR, 45 RBI, 12 SB, .285 AVG
