What I Love About Practicing Massage Therapy

Why do I enjoy practicing massage for a living? I enjoy helping people and of course making a good living is also wonderful! If you play your cards right, you can have fun while making a very nice living. Making a good living can lead to the fulfillment of many other dreams. I must admit that practicing massage came very easy for me and instead of being tired after work, I feel quite the opposite. In addition to being energized afterwards, below is my personal list of what I love about practicing massage for a living.

1.I love helping others. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone who’s in pain. When you can help to take a person from a place of pain and discomfort to a place of moving freely and without pain, it’s satisfying and exciting! I’m always amazed at the change on someone’s face after getting a massage. The look of relief on their face is just like instant gratification. You could say that I’m a treatment enthusiast!

2. When I’m working, I can focus completely on another person. It’s always a welcome relief to take a break from yourself and give someone your full attention. For me, massage is another form of meditation. When I’m working, my hands become one with what I’m doing. While my hands are moving, my mind is focused on what I’m doing and the goals I want to accomplish with my client. It’s a relief to be able to completely focus on the task at hand.

3. When helping someone in pain, I can work with other providers. I enjoy the collaboration of care with others working in the field of health and wellness. The best part of this is educating my clients to all the different treatment options out there. They can take an active and informed role in their care. When the client starts to see positive changes as a result of the treatments, they feel empowered and grateful to the providers.

4. I’m in control of my time. When working for myself, I get to decide when and how much I will work. There’s nothing like being in complete control of your destiny. Since I work for myself, I can set the hours and schedule that works best for me and for the people in my life. You can decide which days to work and when you’re going to take a day off. Nobody will tell you when you can and can’t take a vacation.

5. When I work, I get paid and I set the prices. Unless you work at a spa or salon, you get paid at time of service and you get to keep it all. This comes in handy when the bills arrive in my mailbox. Before becoming a licensed massage therapist many years ago, I was a struggling college student having a hard time keeping up with my bills. Becoming a massage therapist was one of the smartest financial moves I’ve ever made. Since working in this field, I’ve had no problems with paying my bills and have been able to help my family in times of need.

So there, you have it folks, my top 5 reasons for why I love practicing massage therapy. It’s important to understand why you do what you do and your motivations for doing so. With any line of work, it’s easy when you enjoy what you’re doing. People like to ask me if giving massage makes me tired and I say “No, I just feel energized!”
