Watching Her Grow

Spinning, spinning, round and round,
Her bubbly laughter is a wonderful sound.

Laughing and playing and running outside,
“Mommy! Mommy! It’s my turn to hide!”

Running upstairs, she’s afraid of the dark,
Hugging and kissing her little stuffed shark.

My, oh my, how time flies!
Another year has gone by!

First day of school, she’s ready to go!
She needs to learn, she tells me so.

Crayons and markers litter the floor,
Today she got angry and slammed her door.

Her Christmas play was a magical show,
A sugarplum fairy, she danced to and from.

My, oh my, how time flies!
Another year has gone by!

Middle school already! How can this be?
Just yesterday, she turned three!

First dress for a dance, with boys and all,
She came home happy, she had a ball.

Putting on make-up and rolling her eyes,
When did she start telling me lies?

My, oh my, how time flies!
Another year has gone by!

High school and attitude walk hand in hand,
She’s growing up and making life plans.

I’m no longer her best friend,
She even refuses to play pretend.

Getting a job, cashing that first check,
“That’s all I get? What the heck?!”

My, oh my, how time flies!
Another year has gone by!

College is hard your freshman year,
But she jumps right in, she has no fear!

Then one day, she picks up the phone,
She wants to bring her boyfriend home.

She runs through the door, her face is aglow,
“He loves me mom! He told me so!”

My, oh my, how time flies!
Another year has gone by!

Picking out dresses and flowers and more,
From town to town and store to store.

She walks down the aisle and says her vows,
Wow! My baby is a woman now.

Tears streaming down, smile plastered on my face,
Not one of those memories, would I want to replace.

My, oh my, how time flies!
Another year has gone by!
