“House MD” continues to entice new viewers around the world. It is currently the world’s most famous TV show per the 2012 Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. According to Guinness, “House MD” has 81.8 million viewers in 66 different countries. The star and a producer of the Fox TV series, Hugh Laurie is the highest paid TV show actor, receiving $750,000 for starring in an episode. Laurie’s character is a genius infectious diseases’ doctor named Dr. Gregory House, M.D. The doctor has a brilliant team of physicians to help him diagnose and cure rare diseases in a New Jersey, U.S.A., teaching hospital setting.

Every episode is unique. The plots are meticulously woven by the producers, writers, directors, artistic staff, and actors to entice the viewer to want to view each individual show from beginning to end. Then the viewer waits for the next episode with quiet anticipation. I am sure there are many viewers who wish they could find a medical team like the one on “House M.D.” to diagnose and hopefully cure an uncommon and/or unknown affliction. On “House M.D.”, Dr. House’s team work tirelessly to find the causes and cures for serious medical diseases ranging thru the entire spectrum of known mental and physical diseases on planet Earth, .

Dr. House’s best friend and hospital co-team member is a character named Dr. James Wilson, M.D., played by the brilliant Robert Sean Leonard. Dr. House is addicted to the prescription pain medication, Rx. Vicodin for a very painful previous leg injury. Both Wilson and House’s boss, Dr. Lisa Cuddy, M.D., played by Lisa Edelstein, are always monitoring House’s addiction; and his uncanny abilities to secure prescription pain meds; whenever he is occasionally cut off Rx. Vicodin. In the show, House uses a cane and walks with a limp. The doctor’s cane is also a valuable element of Dr. House’s character. On the show, Dr. House utilizes an uncanny genius approach, thinking outside of the confines of textbook knowledge to solve medical cases. Each medical doctor character plays his or her role with perfection as an important member of Dr. House’s team. Creative thinking and giving 100% to diagnose and cure patients’ illnesses is always encouraged and expected by Dr. Gregory House, M.D.

Having been struck by an unknown skin allergen, Spring 2010, I know how frustrating medical tests and going to different doctors can be. Just the thought of one more test and/or going to one more different doctor to try and find the cause and a cure has zapped my previous enthusiasm for being well. I watch “House M.D” and silently hope for a real life doctor; who will locate the cause of skin lesions and find a cure.
