The Peoples Government

” Everybody at some point in their life no matter who they are has something important and relevant to say. It is up to the rest of us to listen, to read, and to see; for just maybe they will say , write, or create something so profound that it could change the course of human events for the greater good of all.” That statement has endured in my persona ever since college. Yet; in all the years since people everywhere only respond and react when individuals of great wealth or fame attempt to influence cultures and economies. Some succeed while others fail.

The media is mostly to blame in creating a culture now where people of wealth, the minority of the population, have set in motion the attitude of self indulgence and a refusal to allow the majority of citizens to have any chance of influencing the decisions that affect us all. A general lack of interest, concern, and empathy toward the majority of the population. It is that majority that in actuality can produce solutions, remedies, and results needed to improve everyone’s quality of life. So often the majority are so over looked and deemed as not being credible and a vial able resource. As a result they are ignored completely.

A prime example was displayed by a major newspapers refusal to cover a potential candidate for the United States Senate. This was back in 1996 and these actions by the media has only gotten worse. The media took it upon themselves to dictate who they will cover in campaigns by imposing their own criteria. In other words the media made it very clear that the amount of money, wealth, and notoriety a person has was their bases for covering that person’s candidacy. This completely eliminates any other person who has ideas, plans, concepts, formulas etc that needs to be shared with others but is shut out because of their lack of wealth, or the connections to monetary wealth. This type of behavior that is so typical of major news networks is still rampant today.

So often in history most people give up only to see their dreams disappear or fade-away because of the monumental effort, time, money and conditions it takes to realize their aspirations. Some have succeeded to over-come the tremendous obstacles that have been placed before them. Perseverance, patience, and self-discipline all play a major factor in realizing one’s own dream.

I am not advocating that we shouldn’t have criteria, but the criteria based solely on ones wealth is superficial, sends a distorted signal to the youth and is very one dimensional. Ideas, concepts, solutions etc have to be based on merit and validity. Only when people all over the world stop for a moment and consider that statement by an old college professor years ago that maybe this world of ours will become a much better place if we all listen to what ordinary people have to say. Just think of the possibilities, for just maybe if that person got the media attention and got elected to the United States Senate probably more people would influx the government with different ideas, and programs chances are that the United States could have averted the economic crisis of today.

Our founding fathers never envisioned a Congress and bureaucracy that we have today. Where the career politician has embedded themselves in positions that control and manipulate the rest of the population. We need a government of the people and by the people to rewrite laws and establish working policies that will ensure a better quality of life for ALL citizens.
