HOLIDAY GIFTS for the GOLFER

Any golfer, from the newly bitten to the long timer, would love to see Santa bringing these gifts down the chimney.

A Dozen Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1X – There are plenty of tour quality premium balls on the market today that do what was once thought impossible, combine potential length off the tee with spin on approach and chip shots, and really, you won’t go wrong with any of them, but, the Pro V series still remains the gold standard in a very competitive field. Even the hopeless hacker or someone who recently took up the game would love to see a box of Pro V’s in their stocking.

A TGW Gift Card – It’s downright hard to buy golf clubs for someone. The options are close to limitless these days as far as shaft flex, shaft material, club length and head size are concerned. Take out the guess work and give your golfer a gift card for The Golf Warehouse and he or she can make their own choice. TGW’s huge inventory of clubs and accessories will have something even the most finicky of buyers will want.

Golf Lessons – Many a golfer has never had a golf lesson from a licenced PGA Professional, but just about all of them have thought about it. Most golf courses and practice facilities have a licensed instructor on sight and some private or semi private golf clubs allow non members to take lessons.

A Carry Bag – Just about all of us would benefit from walking more and buying your golfer a very light but rugged carry bag eliminates one more excuse for not doing so. All of the major golf manufacturuers make nice lightweight bags with double shoulder straps for a more balanced carry.

Instructional Stuff – For the visual learner, Phil Mickelson’s dvd “Secrets of the Short Game” will benefit any golfer with its in depth look at bunker play, chipping and putting given by one of the best short game guys to ever play the game, likewise for Tom Watson’s “Lessons of a Lifetime”. For the reader, it’s hard to go wrong with Ben Hogan’s “Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf” or a subsription to Golf Digest that has instructional pieces by touring pros as well as a wider view of the golfing world.

A Ball Mark Repair Tool – Too many golfers don’t fix their ball marks on the green. This simple gift might drop the hint to the chronic non repairer or become a nice keepsake for the conscientous golfer.

Rangefinder/GPS – It still amazes me that you can buy something that tells your how far away a flag is just by pointing it at something or, you can buy something that hooks up with something orbiting the planet that tells you where you are and where you should go and not go on a golf course. These are great gadgets but probably moreso for the advanced golfer.
