Iman Achhal is an amazing individual. As a Muslim woman, she was all set to marry an older man she didn’t even know, due to an “arranged” marriage setup by her mother – but she knew that was not the life she wanted.
Rather than submit to the pressure, and risking the love and support of her family, she refused to go through with the marriage – and was literally beaten by her mother, and as she describes it, the beating was worse than anything she’s experienced as a fighter.
She left her home country and came to America, where she has not only done well, but she has made a name for herself. Currently a trainer at Crossfit, she has a record of 5-0-0 as an amateur MMA fighter, and is still going strong with a record of 2-1-0 as a pro. In fact, she fought and beat Felice Herrig at Herrig’s UWC Man “O” War pro-debut fight in 2009 (split decision.)
