Is there anywhere in Amsterdam your ALLOWED to smoke cigarettes with the new ban? Or at least get away with it?
Q: I read that there is a tobacco ban in effect in Amsterdam, the marijuana capitol and stoner paradise of the world. So my question is this, is there anywhere that you can smoke a cigarette, or is there anywhere that you can go to smoke a cigarette without getting caught and fined??????????????Please and thank you as always !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A: Well I think we have different definitions of Amsterdam. For me the fact that you can purchase marijuana is no big deal and Amsterdam has an awful lot more to offer. You are right there is a tobacco ban and that extends (already for a year) to all bars, cafes, restaurants, coffeeshops etc. The only place you can smoke tobacco in any of these are in ones that have a seperate smoking area away from staff. There invariably are some that have a (usually very small) areaYou can read a list of them here http://lem.localinet.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5605&highlight=smoke+tobacco
Could someone provide me with the laws revolving around smoking marijuana in Amsterdam?
Q: I’m sure it’s not as simple as anyone can smoke anywhere at anytime.I heard that you must be 18 or older to purchase, but what about possession?I also heard that you must enjoy your cannabis inside a licensed shop, is there anything else I should know? I would rather stay on the good side of the law, as well as not upset the locals.Any information, as well as cited material, would be much appreciated. Thank you!
A: The above answers are not entirely correct… You can buy and carry a maximum of 5 grams per person/per day, as long as you’re 18+. Smoke it in a coffeeshop or in your house, or in a friend’s house. You are allowed to smoke it outside too, but there are certain zones where you’re not allowed to smoke marijuana and there are certain coffeeshops where you’re not allowed to smoke it. If you’re not sure, just ask somebody, even a cop. Most people won’t mind you asking, cops will never mind you asking, unless they’re busy doing something else. Only buy it in coffeeshops, never in the street and never from any private person, if you buy it, buy it in a coffeeshop. That’s basically all you need to know.
Marijuana in Amsterdam?
Q: I need to know but i cant find it anywhere so can some one please tell me is it LEGAL to smoke marijuana in Amsterdam as of right now 2009??if you got links that would help as well thanks
A: To buy/sell then technically this is not legal but tolerated under given conditions. It falls under the policy of ‘gedoogbeleid’ where it is tolerated under given conditions with sales from a coffeeshop- no more than 5g per person may be sold in any one transaction;- no hard drugs may be sold;- drugs may not be advertised;- the coffee shop must not cause any nuisance;- no drugs may be sold to persons under the age of 18, nor may minors be admitted on the premises. So in small quantities you will not be prosecuted if as above. However, if your are caught for another misdemeanor and found in possession, then can be prosecuted for this also.To “smoke” marijuana then it is not illegal. The “use” of drugs is not illegal. Policies are in place for the actions of buying, selling, possession and the supply chain but not the “use”.These conditions have been in place for years and have not changed recently, and nor are there plans to do so for Amsterdam. If you want decent info and to read about it from an official source (as there are a lot of myths and garbage perpetuated about this subject online) then I would advise you to read this document produced by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This way you can be sure what you are reading is fact and not fiction. Here is the link to the site http://www.minbuza.nl/en/You_and_the_Netherlands/About_the_Netherlands/Ethical_issues/FAQ_Drugs and the actual document http://www.minbuza.nl/dsresource?objectid=buzabeheer:58788&type=pdfNote: there is a smoking ban on tobacco being smoked in all public places where staff are working. This includes coffeeshops (unless they have a seperate area which is walled off from staff). This is in place since Jul 2008
